The Halifax Mooseheads and Acadie-Bathurst Titan face off at the K.C. Irving Regional Center in Bathurst in tonight’s season opener.
As the Herd hits the ice for the first road trip of the season, they’ll be without five of their veteran players.
Zach Fucale, Philippe Gadoury, Danny Moynihan, Matt Murphy and Nikolaj Ehlers are all at NHL rookie camps.
With Fucale in Montreal, 17-year-old St. Petersburg, Florida native Kevin Resop is expected to be in the game.
Head coach Dominique Ducharme said Resop is an athletic goalie who takes up a lot of space in the net.
“Not only can he use his size, but also he’s got good hands and good feet to be reaching and getting pucks,” said Ducharme.
Ducharme added they expect Resop to become a solid addition to the team.
Resop is one of nine new faces on the team this year, another rookie Morgan Nauss made the jump from major midget to the QMJHL.
News 95.7 play-by-play announcer John Moore said former Halifax McDonald’s player Nauss could turns some heads this season.
“He came in right from the start and caught the eye of the coaches and his teammates as well,” said Moore.
As for Jonathan Drouin, Moore said fans shouldn’t expect to see him in Halifax.
“I think Jonathan will go into that camp with a little different attitude than he did last year,” said Moore. “He’s a little more ready for the game and I think he did a lot of maturing last year here.”
