Footy fanatics are coming out of the woodwork these days as the final match in the World Cup approaches.
President of the German Canadian Association of Nova Scotia (and news anchor for Global Halifax), Ron Kronstein, told News 95.7 a game as big as the one Sunday between German and Argentina involves a bit of politics.
“The Dutch are probably going to root for Argentina because they don’t want Germany to win.” he said. “There’s all kinds of allegiances that go along with the World Cup.”
Bedford Soccer Association manager, Cindy MacDonald, said lately, a lot of players in her league have been watching more soccer than they likely ever have before.
“They’re identifying players they’ve probably never even heard of before,” she said. “They now have goals that are being scored, and just overall excitement (about the game).”
Kronstein said there’s going to be a lot riding on Sunday’s game, and he’s just hoping to see a good match, and a win for Germany.
“I think it’s going to be a great day and a great game, and I think a lot of people are going to be wrapped up (in it), and it’s going to be an interesting spectacle to watch.”
The two countries will duke it out for the championship this Sunday at 4 p.m. AT.
